Bigfoot Bicycle Club is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to promoting cycling in Humboldt County. We bring together different types and levels of cyclists for safe and fun rides. We represent mountain bikers, road riders, bicycle commuters, recreational and competitive cyclists. We build, maintain and support bike trail systems through our educational and volunteer efforts. We are the hub of the cycling community in California’s North Coast because we share a passion for cycling.
Our current focus is on mountain bike trail advocacy and construction in the Arcata Community Forest, King Range National Recreation Area, Lacks Creek, and Six Rivers National Forest. For a more in-depth description of what we’ve been up to, follow our blog.

Happy trails,

I’m thinking of coming up for a week of MTB, Road Cyc., and surf, the last week of Feb. Just checking on the normal trail closures for that, time of year. Looking forward to checking out the trail system around Paradise Royal. Will there be anything open around that time of year? Also looking for info on a local surf break, something for a Early morning, stay out of the way of the locals, Long boarder? Would you mind helping me out with some info.. If you ever need info. on the MTB. and road riding along the San Mateo coast, just let me know. Thanks
Reek:
Paradise Royale should be in awesome shape after the winter rains subside in late Feb. Enjoy the XC loop and hit the pump track and downhill trails at Tolkan Campground. Bring your longboard and head to Shelter Cove, just five minutes from the PR trailhead. Drive toward the coast on Shelter Cove Rd and you’ll arrive in the little oasis town with a few nice places to eat, sleep and camp. If the surf is good, check out the break at Dead Man’s. For eats, I recommend the pizza joint at the Inn at Shelter Cove. It’s tasty ‘za! Catch the sunset at Black Sands Beach and after a few days there, you might not want to go home.

Hello Bigfoot Bicycle Club,
I am a 7th & 8th grade teacher at Toddy Thomas School in Fortuna. Several of my students are all excited about trying to get the city to sponsor a BMX park. The kids are in the first stages of writing up a proposal, letter, and designing a park. Do you have any suggestions, ideas, or contacts for donations that they can use?
Thank you,
Lanore Bergenske
Hello Lanore,
My name is Rocky Brashear. I am currently putting together a similar project in Blue Lake and Arcata. I have done advocacy for bike trails and implementation of trail plan projects in the area for the past 6 years. Its great that you have taken the initiative of getting the kids so involved with the process. I would be happy to try to help out as best as I can, and I’m sure the club will back you up as well. Would you like to meet or maybe send me what info or resources you have so far?
Roc
Hi Rocky -
A friend of mine Merry Maloney (merrym2@gmail.com) turned 70 and for her birthday I paid her entry to the Markleeville Death Ride. She is awesome!! She hassles me about buying her a birthday present with “Death” in the title
Her riding partner Diana Livingston (mytimeranch@suddenlink.net) decided she wants to go too so we are looking for another entry. If you hear of anyone who has one for sale we would sure appreciate an email or a call.
Your desktop photo of Alpe d’Huez (??) is still on the shipping computer at HY.
Take care – Lee
